Sidewalk Chalk Paint

I wanted to do something fun and creative with the kids and also get us outside for some fresh air. Drawing with sidewalk chalk is something we all like to do that checks both boxes. We saw something on you tube about kids trying to bring some joy to their neighborhood with side walk art and it inspired us. Bad news was we only had two pieces of chalk left. I looked into ordering some online but at that time I couldn't find it very easily at least not at a price I was willing to pay.

Then I wondered what is chalk even made of? Maybe we can make it. I was happy to see that it was pretty easy to make and it just so happened that we had all the ingredients already! We tried a few different recipes throughout the summer but this is the one that worked the best for us.

All you need is cornstarch, water, and food coloring (but if you don't have any you can still make white chalk paint), paint brushes and sidewalk!

In a cupcake pan or in cups add 1/3 cup cornstarch to 1/3 cup water Mix to combine. Add a few drops of food coloring into each cup and stir until your desired color is reached.

Then let your creativity run wild. We wrote inspirational messages, thank you's to essential workers and drew lots of pictures. We even made a scribble picture. If you want to know what a scribble picture is check out my blog and video about that here.
